About Eventide Farm

Growing up in a family that loved animals and having a big sister who is a veterinarian there was no doubt her path was going to lead to animals in some way. She trained the family dog to do tricks with a ball, rode and jumped horses and a teenager, and begged her parents to rescue every cute animal she found. Everyone kept saying, "you need a border collie, they're super smart!"

In college, James and Christina got their first dog Arya from the Tacoma Humane Society. Arya was scared of the world when she first came home but with time and training blossomed into a social dog who would snag a cookie out of anyone's pocket. In 2008 after getting married, they added Mochi to the family. Bred by a local breeder, he turned out to have crippling hip dysplasia and it was a rough introduction into the world of purebred dogs.

Determined to learn more and do better next time, Christina began to think about what breed would suit their lives. A border collie? Too serious for her at the time. Friends suggested she check out Australian shepherds - the border collie's goofy cousin. The right mix of naughty and nice, Helo came home in 2012 and changed our lives forever. Through training Arya and Helo, Christina discovered dog sports, herding, and an addiction that would fuel future endeavors.

Tess came in 2020 after losing Mochi - a potential foundation dog to the program from a local friend who had bred her first litter. Jaina joined us in 2021 as our second foundation potential from our mentor Amy Burnette. Wyatt rounded out the group after Helo passed away bringing some much-needed goodest boy energy back into the household in 2022.

In 2021 after 3 years of searching Christina and James found their dream property in Benton City, WA! They moved and a few months later the first livestock joined them: Bob the wether and Heihei the goat who needed a soft place to land. In January 2022, 6 katahdins joined the farm from On The Lamb farm. Later that year 4 Gotlands joined from our friend and then 12 dog broke katahdin mixes. In the years since we have added more Gotlands from Franna and established our Gotland breeding program. In 2023 we brought in an outside ram from Kalaya Farms. The goal is to be an entirely Gotland herding and breeding group in the future.

Christina has a Bachelor's in Animal Science from Washington State University. She is a current member of the Australian Shepherd Club of America, United States Australian Shepherd Association, Columbia Basin Dog Training Club (CBDTC), Association for Professional Dog Trainers, and the Gotland Sheep Breeds Association of North America. She is also an AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator and serves as CBDTC's President and Scent Work trial secretary.
